How to Make Changes in Your PAN Card
A Step-by-Step Guide
The Permanent Account Number (PAN) card is a vital document for every Indian citizen. But what if there’s an error in your PAN card—like a wrong name, date of birth, or address? Don’t worry! You can easily make corrections or updates in just a few simple steps.
What Can Be Updated in a PAN Card?
You can make corrections or changes in the following details:
- Name (spelling mistakes, name change after marriage, etc.)
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Father’s Name
- Photo and Signature
- Contact Address
- Email ID or Mobile Number
Step 1: First, open the portal. You will find the necessary options there.
Step 2: Select the correct PAN application type.
Since we are correcting a mistake on the PAN card, choose the option for "Correction" or "Change in PAN Card."
Step 3: Next, select whether you are an Individual or a Business.
Choose "Individual" if you're applying for yourself. If you're applying on behalf of a business, select "Business."
Step 4: Then, you need to select the appropriate title based on gender:
Shri – for males
Smt – for married females
Kumari – for unmarried females
Choose the one that applies to you.
Step 5: Now, fill in your personal details:
- Last Name / Surname
- First Name
- Middle Name (if applicable)
- Date of Birth
- Email ID
- Mobile Number

Step 6: After that, you’ll be asked whether you are a citizen of India.
If you are, select “Yes.”
Step 7: Then, enter your existing PAN number that you want to correct or update.

Step 8: Tick the declaration box and submit the data.
Step 9: After submission, you will receive a Token Number.
Note: This token number is valid for 30 days only, so make sure to complete the process within this period.
Then click on “Continue” to proceed.
Step 10: Choose One of the Submission Modes
You will see three options to submit your application. Choose the one that suits you best:
1. Submit digitally through e-KYC and e-Sign (Paperless)
Aadhaar details will be used for verification.
No need to send physical documents.
Step 11: Select the Second Option – Submit Scanned Images through e-Sign
In this method, you need to:
Upload a scanned photo (passport size)
Upload a scanned signature
Upload supporting documents (like Aadhaar, proof of DOB, etc.)
Make sure the scanned copies are clear and in the correct format (usually JPEG or PDF).
Once everything is uploaded, click “Next” to proceed.
2. Submit scanned images through e-Sign
Upload scanned copies of your photo, signature, and supporting documents.
No need to send documents physically.
3. Forward application documents physically
Download and print the acknowledgment form.
Attach photocopies of documents.
Send them by post to the PAN processing center.
Step 12: Choose Whether You Want a Physical PAN Card
You will be asked: Do you want a physical PAN card?
Select “Yes” if you want a printed PAN card delivered to your address.
Select “No” if you only need an e-PAN (PDF copy sent via email).
Step 13: Fill in PAN and Aadhaar Details
Enter your PAN card number
Enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar card
Then, tick the declaration boxes and fill in the following details as per Aadhaar:
- Full Name (Last Name, Middle Name, First Name)
- Date of Birth
- Gender

Optional:
If you wish to apply for PAN by furnishing your parent's name, you can:
Enter your Father’s or Mother’s Name (Last, Middle, First Name)
Choose whether you want your Father’s or Mother’s Name to be printed on the PAN card
After completing this section, click “Next.”
Step 14: Fill in Contact and Document Details
Tick the box and enter your address, phone number, and email ID
Then provide your document details:
Proof of Identity (e.g., Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport)
Proof of Address (e.g., Aadhaar, Utility Bill, Passport)
Proof of Date of Birth (e.g., Birth Certificate, 10th Mark Sheet)
Proof of PAN (old PAN card or a document showing your PAN)
Step 15: Declaration Section
Enter your full name
Select “him” or “her” based on your gender
Confirm all the details and click on “Submit”
Step 16: Upload Required Documents
Now, upload the following scanned files:
Passport-size Photo (as per the guidelines)
Signature (on white paper, in black or blue ink)
Aadhaar Card (clear scanned copy, front and back if needed)
Make sure all files are in the correct format (JPEG, PNG, or PDF) and within the size limit.
After uploading, click “Submit” to continue.
Step 17: Make the Payment
Select Online Payment as your payment method.
Tick “I agree to the Terms of Service.”
Click on “Proceed to Payment.”
You will now see the amount to be paid.
Click on “Pay & Confirm.”
Complete the payment using your preferred method (UPI, Net Banking, Card, etc.)
Important:
Do not refresh the page or close the browser while the payment is processing.
After successful payment, the screen will display:
Amount Paid
Bank Reference Number
Date and Time of Transaction
Click “Continue” to move to the final steps.
Step 18: Aadhaar Verification
Tick the checkbox and enter your Aadhaar number
You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number
Enter the OTP to complete the verification
Once the OTP is verified:
You will receive an Acknowledgment Number on your email ID
Your updated PAN card will be sent to your email and also delivered to your postal address within 15 days
