LESSON PLAN - AIR - GRADE -7- GEOGRAPHY

AIM OF LESSON :

1. To understand what the atmosphere is and why it is important for life on Earth.

2. To learn about the composition and structure of the atmosphere.

3. To know the difference between weather and climate.

4. To understand key elements of weather: temperature, air pressure, wind, moisture, and rainfall.

5. To explore how human activities can affect the atmosphere and the climate.

 CONCEPT :

The atmosphere is a layer of air around the Earth that supports life and protects us.

This lesson explains its composition, layers, and how it affects weather and climate.

OPENING QUESTION :

Can we see the air around us? Then how do we know it’s there?

What would happen if there was no air on Earth?

Why do you think the weather changes every day?

Have you ever seen a weather forecast on TV or your phone? What does it tell you?

Do you know what makes it rain or what causes wind to blow?

METHODOLOGY :

Explanation with Examples
Explain each concept (like temperature, air pressure, wind, and moisture) using real-life examples students can relate to.

REAL LIFE EXAMPLES :

Why We Need the Ozone Layer

The ozone layer is like a sunscreen for Earth. It protects us from the sun’s strong rays that can hurt our skin and eyes.

A long time ago, people used sprays and coolants that made a hole in the ozone layer. Because of this, more harmful rays reached the Earth, causing problems for people and plants.

Now, countries have stopped using those harmful sprays, and the ozone layer is getting better. This shows how important it is to take care of the air around us.

ACTIVITIES :

Air Pressure Experiment with Balloon
Blow up a balloon and place it over a bottle opening. Warm the bottle with your hands and watch how the balloon moves. This shows how air pressure changes with temperature.

Wind Dance

Choreograph a simple dance mimicking the movement of wind, clouds, and rainfall. Use scarves or ribbons to represent air currents. This kinesthetic activity helps internalize concepts.

   LEARNING OUTCOMES :

1.   Explain what the atmosphere is and why it is important for life on Earth.

2.   Identify the main gases that make up the air we breathe.

3.   Describe the five layers of the atmosphere and their key features.

4.   Understand how the atmosphere protects us from the sun’s harmful rays.

5.   Distinguish between weather and climate.

6.   Explain how temperature, air pressure, wind, and moisture affect weather.

7.   Observe and record simple weather changes in their environment.

8.   Recognize the impact of human activities on the atmosphere and weather patterns.

ASSESSMENT :

Worksheet / Quiz

REMEDIAL MEASURE :

Repeat and Review
Go over key points multiple times and use quizzes or flashcards to reinforce learning.

HOME WORK :

Keep a weather diary for three days: note the temperature, wind, and whether it rained or was sunny.
